Designing With Web - Part 3: week 1

Encourage museum visit experience for families thanks to gaming

Group 22

Project 1: Happy (art) feet

Context

when? where? who? why?

As we all know, museums are quiet and calm places. They are wonderful places to get away from your problems for a few hours, and for many people it is very relaxing and comforting. The problem is, not everyone is able to be quiet and calm for so much time...We asked ourselves, what aout parents with young children? What happens if they want to go to museums sometimes to relax? Well, we tought about these desperate parents and we found a solution!

Our project is to attract more families in museums by implementing a new interactive activity for children. The concept is simple: pieces of art (mostly paintings) divided in small key parts will be projected alternatively on the ground. Children will then be able to step on it and every time they will do so, another part of the paiting will appear in another place. At the end the child/children will have walked everywhere and the reassembled piece of art will appear.

This activity will be settled in specific soundproof rooms dedicated to it inside the museums. Parent will be able to choose between two options: the first one is simply using the game along with their children at a specific moment of their visit, and the second one is a more complete option: parents will be allowed to leave their children in the room with facilitators for a minimum of a hour. Parents interested in our service will be able to book a slot for their children only (with a faciliator), or a slot for the whole family, direclty from our website.

This can be setlled for paintings but can also be declined with pictures of sculptures, mosaics...

Target

for whom?

Of course the main target will be children aged from 2 to 8. Older children might simply not be interested in that kind of activity. However, we can easily imagine that their parents/relatives can get caught up in the game with them, and will be willing to play. Our service will be set in partnership with any interested museums.

Service offered

what? how?

For children: A different experience of museum that would stimulate their interest using new technologies. The interactivity will allow children to stay focused and to enjoy the experience.

For parents: With option 1: A entertaining and complicity moment with their children, and the opportunity to discover culture in an innovative way. With option 2: The opportunity to enjoy a visit peacefully while their children are being entertained and cultured.

For museums: The opportunity to attract more families and some age groups they normally do not target/attract

Project 2: XP rience

Context

when? where? who? why?

As we all know, museums are quiet places. They are great places to relax and to get away from your daily life for a few hours. However if this asset of a museum appeal to a great share of the population, children and adolescents are surely not the first targeted. According to many studies, the younger age groups re the ones who go less to museums. The main issue here is that it results in a lack of general and artistic culture. In a large scale, it could be a disaster for the next generations.

What we suggest, as a solution to solve this problem is a more interactive museum, that would entertain children and encourage them to go to museums more often and even, ideally ask their parents to take them!

Our project consists in an app which will function with the same principle as the very popular and famous app "Pokemon go". Children with their smarthphones (or their parent's) and tablets will be able to locate some virtual pieces of arts in the street. Once they scanned it, they will get information about it (history, context, popularity, author...), experience points and the place where the piece of art can really be located. If they also manage to scan the real piece of art, they will get bonuses points. The app will also be kind of a social network as you will be able to add some friends in your contacts. To encourage participation and competition, a ranking of the best scores will also be available in the app.

Target

for whom?

The main target are families with children aged from approximately 8 to 17. This age group is approximate as younger children use less tablets and smartphones and older children might get bored with this kind of app. Partnerships will be set up with any interested museums.

Service offered

what? how?

For children: a way to entertain themselves while increasing their art knowledge and curiosity

For parents: a way to entertain their kids and grow their interest for art

For museums: a way to attract a younger and more dynamic population and to convince their future clients.
